Background Information - Electric Motorbike

Because of today’s problem of increasing air and noise pollution in city centres, Takhi
Design is developing an electric motorbike for downtown use. Nowadays, there are mainly electric scooters and mopeds in the market. Takhi Design’s electric motorbike is competitive on design and performance compared with a regular motorbike, and represents a new category in the motorbike market. The design goal is to reflect the innovative technology of the bike. The result of the bachelor thesis is a working prototype. The group Takhi Design was constituted spring 2008 and the work began by August 2008. The five students in Takhi Design is graduating BA in Industrial Design and Engineering at Østfold University College. They have developed Norway’s first electric motorbike. The prototype has participated at the Norwegian Motorcycle Exhibition 6th - 8th March 2009; at "Klimabil 2009", an exhibition of climate neutral vehicles in Oslo 25th April 2009; and at the exhibition at Electric Vehicle Symposium, EVS-24, 13th - 16th May 2009 in Stavanger, Norway.

More information about the project in the formal project description (only in Norwegian).

Great success at the EVS-24!

Since August last year we have been working very hard to get our prototype ready for the Electric Vehicle Symposium, EVS-24, which was due May 13. – 16. in Stavanger, Norway. The electric motorcycle was finished on time and tested for the first time Monday morning on our way to Stavanger. When we first put it on display, it was highly applauded from an excited audience as well as the vehichle industry and specially invited guests. As part of their official program, HRH Crown Prince Haakon of Norway and HRH Prince Albert 2nd of Monaco visited the Takhi Design booth. Among them there were also other Norwegian celebrities who showed an interest for the electric motorcycle, like the Minister of Transport and Communications, Liv-Signe Navarsete, and Minister of the Environment and International Development, Erik Solheim.
